The Monkees' Davy Jones Dies: Stars Pay Tribute

Friends, band members and Monkees fans have come out in full force to remember singer Davy Jones, who passed away Wednesday at age 66.

Jones' rep told Us Weekly the musician died "of a heart attack" at Martin Memorial Hospital in his hometown of Indiantown, Florida. The 1960s pop idol is survived by his wife Jessica and four daughters from previous relationships.

"It is with great sadness that I reflect on the sudden passing of my long-time friend and fellow-adventurer, David Jones," Jones' Monkees bandmate Peter Tork, 70, tells Entertainment Weekly in a statement. "His talent will be much missed; his gifts will be with us always. My deepest sympathy to Jessica and the rest of his family."
Adds Monkees singer Micky Dolenz, 66: "I am in a state of shock; Davy and I grew up together and shared in the unique success of what became The Monkees phenomena. The time we worked together and had together is something I'll never forget. He was the brother I never had and this leaves a gigantic hole in my heart. The memories have and will last a lifetime. My condolences go out to his family."

Footloose star Kevin Bacon, 53, expressed his sadness via Twitter Wednesday, writing: When I was a kid I wanted to be Davy Jones. Big part of what led me to showbiz. R.I.P."

Echoed ABC Family actress Melissa Joan Hart, 35: "I'm so saddened by the news that Davy Jones has passed away! I used to watch The Monkees after school on Nick everyday!"

Neil Diamond, 71, tweeted that he was "sad to hear" about Jones' passing. "The Monkees were such a sensation that it was a thrill for me to have them record some of my early songs."
Other stars who honored Jones' memory via Twitter include former reality star Jill Zarin, Boy Meets World actress Danielle Fishel, Smashing Pumpkins musician Billy Corgan, actress Lisa Rinna, Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria, actress Alyssa Milano and American Reunion star Shannon Elizabeth.
