Interview with the Winners of the “New Face of Wombat Leather” Competition

Interests: Other than my acting and newfound love for modeling, I’d say my interests right now are Christmas (eeeek!), winter layers, 1950’s fashion, Tom Hardy (serious man-crush) and UFC (cage fighting, I only watch though I don’t compete – I like my ears too much).

Favourite Wombat Leather product:

James: I wanted the men’s holdall as soon as I saw it! Also loving the backpacks and they seem to be right on trend at the moment.

Amy: The brown leather weekend bag!

What inspired you to enter the competition to become the new face of Wombat Leather?

James: I was constantly being told by people I met on film shoots to look into modeling, and in the past month I decided it would be daft to keep ignoring people and not look into other opportunities (for the quieter periods in my acting career). I use StarNow for castings anyway, so when I saw the Wombat Leather competition I thought, why not? If you don’t try you’ll never know!

Amy: I've always been interested in modeling, so when I saw the competition I had to enter. I never in a million years thought I'd go on to win it!

How did you celebrate after receiving the news that you’d won?

James: I got drunk and wore the closest thing I had to a Wombat hat all night. I also thanked everyone who voted for me – a lot of people were behind me – some of whom I hadn’t spoken to in years, which was amazing and pretty humbling.

Amy: I'm an airhostess and I found out 20 minutes before I was due to fly home from Orlando! So I had a celebratory orange juice on the aircraft!

Earlier this week you had your first official photo shoot for Wombat Leather. What was the experience like for you?

James: I absolutely loved it. It was my first professional commercial shoot, and if my future experiences are even half as enjoyable then I’m excited for what’s in store. The team, photographer, artistic direction, location, fellow models and everyone involved were amazing. It was the perfect day!

Amy: The shoot was amazing! Dani, Debbie and Victoria made it so easy and fun. James and the other models were so friendly – it made the day fly by!

Were there any funny or embarrassing moments on the shoot?

James: The whole day was a laugh – we all got on really well. If I had to pick a specific moment though, it would probably be the photographer ripping her pants and having to use my jumper to cover her (ahem) modesty for the second half of the shoot!

Amy: When we were discussing lunch, everyone else was opting for salads, sandwiches and water. In true model fashion, I went for sausage, chips and coke!

What drew you to modeling, and for how long has it been a dream for you?

James: As I said before, it was only very recently that I decided to give it a proper shot. But after my experience with Wombat Leather, I can safely say that it’s something I plan to stick with and be as successful as possible in. I think my acting background complements my modeling work and I believe I can do well in this industry. I’ve always been into fashion and frequently take sneak peaks at my mum’s Elle and Vogue magazines. If I one day end up in one of those, I’d be very happy!

Amy: Everyone said I should try modeling, but I found it a bit awkward to say, “Yeah, I want to be a model!” But when I did my first photo shoot 18 months ago, I well and truly got the bug!

Wombats are wild animals, but if it were possible to have one as a pet, what would you name yours?

James: Wombert, I reckon.

Amy: Honey, because it's my favorite name!

What’s your favourite thing about Wombat Leather products?

James: They’re great quality, on-trend and affordable (and that’s coming from a broke actor!).

Amy: Debbie, the owner, has such an obvious passion for the company and the products!
