'BUGSY MALONE WITH BALLS'
Set in Prohibition era Franklin County, Virginia the screenplay by Nick Cave was taken from Matt Bondurant’s 2008 novel 'The Wettest County in the World' based upon the history of Bondurant’s grandfather and great-uncle. The story tells the tale of three bootlegging brothers (Hardy, LaBeouf, Clarke), fighting against new Special Deputy Charles Rakes (Guy Pearce), who threatens to take a cut of their profits.
Directed by John Hillcoat, the star studded cast features screen favourites Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises, Warrior, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy ),Shia LaBeouf (Transformers, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull), Guy Pearce (The King's Speech , The Count of Monte Cristo , Memento), Jason Clarke (Brotherhood), and Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight, Harry Potter, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy).
Although not for the faint hearted, with graphic scenes of blood and violence, the plot is strong enough to keep you interested and engaged. A pinch of romantic interest is included between Forrest (Hardy), and Maggie Beauford played by actress Jessica Chastainwhilst Jack (LaBeouf), pursues the unobtainable preacher’s daughter brought to life by up and coming starlet Mia Wasikowska(Albert Nobbs , Jayne Eyre).
The soundtrack sits beautifully with the cinematography resulting in the film being not only visually but audibly stunning too. A definite must see!
We give this film a Tiger World rating of 4.5 stars
