Janet Jackson To Pay Tribute To Michael At The VMAs

Posted by abohan Rabu, 09 September 2009 0 komentar

Janet will help kick off the awards show, which airs live Sunday at 9 p.m.

Michael Jackson has contributed some of the most unforgettable moments in the history of the MTV Video Music Awards. In 1984, he won a handful of Moonmen for his "Thriller" video. A decade later, he shared a famous kiss with wife Lisa Marie Presley onstage. The list of epic performances and remarkable pop-culture moments goes on and on.

Following Jackson's sudden death in June, his sister Janet will return to the VMA stage to pay musical tribute to her brother. On Sunday, Janet — who has won nine VMAs — will make a special appearance at the VMAs to help open the show and honor MJ's career. Previous reports noting that choreographer Frank Gaston is involved are erroneous.

Airing live Sunday at 9 p.m., the Russell Brand-hosted VMAs will pit Lady Gaga against Beyoncé, as each pop star has nabbed nine nominations, including nods for Video of the Year and Best Female Video. Britney Spears has garnered seven nominations for her "Womanizer" and "Circus" clips in categories like Video of the Year and Best Pop Video. Kanye West, Eminem and Coldplay received four nominations each.

Performers include Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, Green Day, Pink, Taylor Swift and Muse. Among the evening's presenters are Katy Perry, Nelly Furtado, Leighton Meester, Chace Crawford, Ne-Yo and Miranda Cosgrove.

"Twilight" stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner will also appear on the show to debut an exclusive expanded trailer for "New Moon," the second film in the vampire saga.

Family members found marijuana in Jackson's bedroom

The discovery prompted investigators to search the pop star's mansion for heroin-related equipment. But lab tests found no marijuana, cocaine or heroin in Jackson's system.

Rotting marijuana that Michael Jackson's family members mistook for heroin briefly caused detectives to look for further evidence of the illegal drug in the pop star's rented residence during the frenzied 48 hours after his death, according to sources close to the investigation.

Family members told coroner's officials that they found "tar heroin" in the Holmby Hills home's master bedroom. Only Jackson and his children had access to the room, according to court records unsealed Thursday. The discovery prompted authorities to obtain a search warrant for Jackson's house for heroin, hypodermic needles, cutting agents, scales, balloons, condoms, razor blades, buyer lists, and seller lists, among other items, documents show.

But within days, police had ruled out heroin as a factor in the singer's death, sources close to the investigation said. Lab tests showed that the purported heroin was actually moldy marijuana, sources said. And, according to court records, a lengthy police interview with Jackson's personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, placed another drug, the powerful anesthetic propofol, at the center of the investigation.

Law enforcement sources said that neither marijuana, cocaine nor heroin were found in Jackson's system.

The search warrant records, unsealed at the request of several media organizations, show that police seized 12 bottles of the sedative temazepam, several other prescription drugs and empty medication vials from Jackson's house the day after his June 25 death. As part of the investigation, police searched Murray's car June 29, records show. But according to the search inventory, the only items seized were a business card for an executive handling Jackson's London concerts, a contract and an envelope with miscellaneous writing.

In another warrant made public Thursday, a federal agent wrote that Jackson's longtime friend and physician Dr. Arnold Klein had self-prescribed medication 27 times during a nearly three-year period.

The allegation prompted a federal magistrate to sign off on a search last week of Mickey Fine Pharmacy, which Jackson frequently used.

State records showed that Klein had self-prescribed Vicodin, Valium, the sedative midazolam and modafinil, a drug used to improve wakefulness.

Klein's attorney, Garo B. Ghazarian, said Klein never self-prescribed any medication, but the lawyer declined to explain the drug-tracking records.

Michael Jackson's Dad Says Burial Set for August 29: Report

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Michael Jackson's father has said the "King of Pop" will be buried at a Los Angeles cemetery on August 29, which would have been his 51st birthday, a newspaper reported on Monday.

Joe Jackson told the New York Daily News that the plan was finalized in recent days.

Media reports last week said Jackson, who died June 25 of cardiac arrest, was buried in a private ceremony in early August. But those reports were based on unnamed sources and never confirmed by Jackson family representatives.

A Jackson family spokesman was not immediately available Monday to comment on the Daily News story, nor was a spokesman at Los Angeles' Forest Lawn cemetery, where Joe Jackson said his son would be buried.

A public memorial for the singer was held in July, but there was never an official confirmation that the "Thriller" singer was buried after the event.

The reason behind Jackson's cardiac arrest remains a mystery. The Los Angeles County Coroner's office has completed its autopsy report but its findings remain sealed until police conclude their investigation.

Los Angeles police are looking into the role prescription drugs may have played in Jackson's death and the actions of doctors who were treating him in the weeks before he died.

Jackson glove to go under hammer

Michael Jackson's glove

The glove features a mesh web of faceted rhinestones

The white glove Michael Jackson wore when he first performed the Moonwalk in 1983 is to be sold at auction later this year in New York.

The left-handed, leather rhinestone glove, which the star wore during the Motown 25 TV special, is expected to fetch up to $60,000 (£36,300).

It is being sold by Commodores member Walter Orange, who was given the glove as a gift from Jackson.

The sale will take place at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York on 21 November.

The glove is unlike the ones characteristically worn by Jackson during the period, which were right-handed and featured hand sewn crystals.

It is thought the glove was put together in a hurried fashion as the singer had only decided on his dance routine for the show at the last minute.

The glove is being sold along with a letter written by Orange, in which he explains how he came to be given the item.

Signed book

Other items including Jackson's Bad tour jacket, a fedora hat he wore at the 1995 MTV Music Awards, a zombie costume from the Thriller video and hand-drawn pictures by the star are also going under the hammer at the Music Icons auction.

Meanwhile, a special-edition book about Michael Jackson signed by a host of celebrities is to be auctioned for charity.

Dame Elizabeth Taylor, Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand and P Diddy are among the names that have been approached to sign the 400-page Michael Jackson Special Edition Opus which publishers have described as an "exhaustively researched and lavishly produced work-of-art".

Money from the auction, which will take place simultaneously in London and Los Angeles, will go to five of the charities Jackson supported during his life.

The date of the auction and the names of the charities that will benefit are yet to be confirmed.
