Janet Jackson To Pay Tribute To Michael At The VMAs

Posted by abohan Rabu, 09 September 2009 0 komentar

Janet will help kick off the awards show, which airs live Sunday at 9 p.m.

Michael Jackson has contributed some of the most unforgettable moments in the history of the MTV Video Music Awards. In 1984, he won a handful of Moonmen for his "Thriller" video. A decade later, he shared a famous kiss with wife Lisa Marie Presley onstage. The list of epic performances and remarkable pop-culture moments goes on and on.

Following Jackson's sudden death in June, his sister Janet will return to the VMA stage to pay musical tribute to her brother. On Sunday, Janet — who has won nine VMAs — will make a special appearance at the VMAs to help open the show and honor MJ's career. Previous reports noting that choreographer Frank Gaston is involved are erroneous.

Airing live Sunday at 9 p.m., the Russell Brand-hosted VMAs will pit Lady Gaga against Beyoncé, as each pop star has nabbed nine nominations, including nods for Video of the Year and Best Female Video. Britney Spears has garnered seven nominations for her "Womanizer" and "Circus" clips in categories like Video of the Year and Best Pop Video. Kanye West, Eminem and Coldplay received four nominations each.

Performers include Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, Green Day, Pink, Taylor Swift and Muse. Among the evening's presenters are Katy Perry, Nelly Furtado, Leighton Meester, Chace Crawford, Ne-Yo and Miranda Cosgrove.

"Twilight" stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner will also appear on the show to debut an exclusive expanded trailer for "New Moon," the second film in the vampire saga.

Family members found marijuana in Jackson's bedroom

The discovery prompted investigators to search the pop star's mansion for heroin-related equipment. But lab tests found no marijuana, cocaine or heroin in Jackson's system.

Rotting marijuana that Michael Jackson's family members mistook for heroin briefly caused detectives to look for further evidence of the illegal drug in the pop star's rented residence during the frenzied 48 hours after his death, according to sources close to the investigation.

Family members told coroner's officials that they found "tar heroin" in the Holmby Hills home's master bedroom. Only Jackson and his children had access to the room, according to court records unsealed Thursday. The discovery prompted authorities to obtain a search warrant for Jackson's house for heroin, hypodermic needles, cutting agents, scales, balloons, condoms, razor blades, buyer lists, and seller lists, among other items, documents show.

But within days, police had ruled out heroin as a factor in the singer's death, sources close to the investigation said. Lab tests showed that the purported heroin was actually moldy marijuana, sources said. And, according to court records, a lengthy police interview with Jackson's personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, placed another drug, the powerful anesthetic propofol, at the center of the investigation.

Law enforcement sources said that neither marijuana, cocaine nor heroin were found in Jackson's system.

The search warrant records, unsealed at the request of several media organizations, show that police seized 12 bottles of the sedative temazepam, several other prescription drugs and empty medication vials from Jackson's house the day after his June 25 death. As part of the investigation, police searched Murray's car June 29, records show. But according to the search inventory, the only items seized were a business card for an executive handling Jackson's London concerts, a contract and an envelope with miscellaneous writing.

In another warrant made public Thursday, a federal agent wrote that Jackson's longtime friend and physician Dr. Arnold Klein had self-prescribed medication 27 times during a nearly three-year period.

The allegation prompted a federal magistrate to sign off on a search last week of Mickey Fine Pharmacy, which Jackson frequently used.

State records showed that Klein had self-prescribed Vicodin, Valium, the sedative midazolam and modafinil, a drug used to improve wakefulness.

Klein's attorney, Garo B. Ghazarian, said Klein never self-prescribed any medication, but the lawyer declined to explain the drug-tracking records.

Jackson tribute in Vienna set for Sept. 26

Source: The Associated Press - William J. Kole

VIENNA — A global tribute to Michael Jackson on the grounds of a 17th century palace in Vienna will be held Sept. 26, and Jackson's brother Jermaine will announce the concert lineup soon, organizers said Wednesday.

World Awards Media GmbH, the event promoters, said Jermaine Jackson would unveil details at a Vienna news conference later this month.

The promoters said in a statement they were working "briskly" to line up major entertainers and a network to broadcast the event live. They said Vienna agreed to be a partner "in this singularly worldwide event."

On Tuesday, World Media Awards chief Georg Kindel told The Associated Press the tribute was expected to run three hours and feature about 10 top artists performing 15 to 20 Jackson hits. They would perform on a crown-shaped stage to be built in front of Vienna's Schoenbrunn Palace.

Kindel said Jackson family members and unidentified Hollywood stars also would honor Jackson as images and video clips were screened.

Last week, Jermaine Jackson said Vienna was chosen as the venue because his brother "loved castles."

Many fans had expected the tribute to be staged in London, where the pop star had been booked to begin performing a marathon of concerts shortly after his June 25 death in Los Angeles.

Renate Brauner, Vienna's deputy mayor, said the city is thrilled to play host to "this high-carat, internationally sensational event."

Austrian media have reported that Madonna, U2, Lionel Richie and Whitney Houston might be among the performers. Kindel declined to confirm those reports and stressed that Jermaine Jackson is still assembling the lineup.

Tickets are expected to go on sale Aug. 20.

Organizers envision standing room for about 85,000 people on the sculpted grounds of Schoenbrunn, a former imperial palace, and grandstands to accommodate 5,000 VIP guests.

Former Child Star Latest to Lay Claim to Michael Jackson's Children

ABC News - Sarah Netter - ‎Aug 10, 2009‎

Call it another day, another Michael Jackson mystery.

Less than a week after Jackson's 79-year-old mother Katherine Jackson was awarded custody of his three children a former British child star has come forward saying he believes he's the father of Jackon's 11-year-old daughter, Paris.

"I believe that Paris could be my daughter, and I would be willing to take a paternity test," Mark Lester, star of the 1967 film "Oliver," told British tabloid News of the World.

Lester, 51, said that he donated sperm for Debbie Rowe, mother of Jackson's two oldest children, Paris and Prince Michael I, 12. He contends that Paris bears an uncanny resemblance to his own daughters, particularly his 15-year-old.

"Looking at pictures of Harriet and Paris, there's a very strong resemblance between the two of them," Lester, also the children's godfather, told News of the World," "Paris has blue eyes, pale complexion and high cheekbones."

While some were surprised by Lester's announcement, Jackson's friend Uri Geller wasn't one of them.

"I was not surprised because I knew it all along," Geller has said, "simply because Michael told me these facts."

Lester said he came forward now, six weeks after Jackson's June 25 death, because he wants to remain in contact with the pop icon's children.

"I dearly want to remain in contact with those kids, and I feel now this is the only way that I can ensure that," he said.

Lester said he was also concerned that Prince, Paris and Jackson's youngest son, Prince Michael II, 7, also known as Blanket, will be raised as Jehovah's Witnesses. While Katherine Jackson is a Jehovah's Witness, Lester said Michael Jackson wanted them raised Catholic.

Rowe was said to have similar concerns about the children's religious upbringing.

Toby Kleinman of the Center for Protection of Children said that if Lester were to try to make any claim to the Jackson children it would be his relationship with them, not a possible sperm donation, that would stand up in court.

"A sperm donor does not have any rights in California," she said. "The question is whether or not he has any standing whatsoever to have a relationship with the Jackson children."

Kleinman pointed to past cases of grandparents or siblings going to court to get visitation rights, but noted that it would be up to the judge to decide whether or not its worth interfering with Katherine Jackson's custody arrangement to allow Lester court-appointed visitation.

Growing Number of Men Named as Potential Sperm Donors for Jackson Children

Though members of Jackson's family have steadfastly maintained that the singer fathered his own children -- Blanket was born to an unnamed surrogate mother -- the children's paternity has been in question almost since the day he died.

Some had questioned whether Jackon's Beverly Hills dermatologist, Arnold Klein, had fathered the children.

When ABC News' Diane Sawyer questioned Klein about the speculation last month, he gave a cryptic reply that left room for more questions.

"All I can tell you is, best of my knowledge, I'm not the father of these children," he said.

Klein even petitioned the judge last week to give him a say in the children's upbringing. While the motion was rejected, Klein's attorney has said he'll try again in September.

Another paternity rumor is that Jackson's close friend and bodyguard Miko Brando -- son of Marlon Brando -- could be Blanket's biological father. Brando has denied the claim.

Jackson's manager has said such speculation is all nonsense.

"I'm sure those kids are Michael's," he said. " Michael's told me they're his. Debbie Rowe has told me they're his."

While various men are eyed as being the biological father of Jackson's three children, questions remain about whether Jackson fathered a fourth child, Omer Bhatti, now 25.

Bhatti, an aspiring rapper from Norway who lived with Jackson for years at Neverland Ranch, has denied that Jackson was his biological father. But Joe Jackson told TV One last month that he believed Bhatti was, in fact, a Jackson.
